Jason Wason

For over thirty years, Jason Wason has made a stretch of landscape that overlooks the Atlantic Ocean near St Just, West Penwith his studio and home. The landscape here is rich with the history of the Cornish mining industry as well as the elemental forces of its ancient standing stones. His own work is informed by this location as much as by his extensive travels around the world and his knowledge of ancient and ceremonial ceramic structures. Wason subtly references the art, and culture of these landscapes as well as  that of his native Cornwall, imbuing his vessels with earthy and metallic colours derived from the local mineral deposits. He creates forms that give the impression of age and erosion and prefers to leave his surfaces unglazed, allowing the clay to be the skin of the object.
Jason Wason has exhibited widely in the United Kingdom, as well as the USA, Holland and Japan. His works are in many collections, with his latest 'Red and Gold Vessel, 2019', which has been acquired by the V&A for their permanent collection.
